Building school leadership through collaboration
Chantal sees school leadership as a collaborative effort that includes principals, teachers, student representatives, and external stakeholders. To ensure effective training, the African Center for School Leadership conducts needs assessments before designing professional development programs. In Rwanda, the Center offers a Diploma in Effective School Leadership for headteachers and a Certificate in Educational Mentorship and Coaching for teacher mentors with both blending theory with practical application. Schools and participants are selected based on need, with a focus on newly appointed leaders. With an intentional selection strategy, the Center now aims to increase female representation in school leadership.

“ We defend school leadership from a distributed perspective. Recognizing its complexity, we view it as a collaborative effort that involves various actors at different levels within the education systems.”
